Medical condiions can affect a family in many ways.  There is additional stress put on family members and care-givers a well as the extreme emotional stress that the indvidual experiences.  Chronic illness can take its toll on families in all areas of their lives; not only emotionally, but also financially and socially.  This stress can cause tension and resentfullness on the part of all family members.  Patients sometimes feel isolated and lonely - feeling like no one understands what they are going through.  It is important for family and friends to watch for signs of depression and suicidality in their loved one.
